LOOKING AFTER GOD’S WORLD
As Christians, we believe that it is our responsibility to take care of God’s earth and respond to climate change, and as a church, we are committed to managing our environmental impact wherever possible.
We have a dedicated team who help us think through our church’s environmental footprint, and encourage us to raise the profile of environmental and ecological issues within our church.
We are on a journey towards becoming a more eco-friendly church - we know we are not there yet, but we have taken some of the following steps.
Steps We HAve Taken
We encourage folk to bring their own coffee cup to church
We have stopped printing newsletters and moved them online
We only serve fairtrade tea and coffee
All of the church-owned buildings have recycling bins
We talk about environmental issues from the front of church
We have a dedicated team who help us think through environmental issues
In our buildings:
We are in the process of switching all our lightbulbs to LED lights
We only print when necessary
We have recycling bins
We promote car sharing where possible, and have also provided bike racks
Light fittings being switched to PIR where possible.
Old buildings - modern gas boiler systems with smart heating.
New buildings - airsource heating, lots of insulation, and solar PV systems.
Choose energy suppliers with emphasis on renewables.
Food waste is composted.
We know there is much more we can do, and these are just small steps in the right direction.
STEPS WE ARE PLANNING TO TAKE OVER TIME
Having an environmental rep at each site
Recycling any disposable cups used at our sites - removing rubbish from the venue and taking it to a recycle centre elsewhere, if the venue itself does not have recycling bins available.
Replace all heating systems with more environmentally friendly options.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
We are looking to gather some people around the life of our church who are passionate about all things earth and environment. We want to be a church that steward our planet well and so we are having good discussions around how to do this and making small steps towards this.
If you’re interested in joining, please let us know HERE, and we'll be in touch with further details.
